The root of the word “psychology” is psyche and is derived from the Greek word psykhē, which means vital breath of life, soul, the unseen animating entity which directs the body-mind. Helping a client re-attune with the psyche – the transcendent intelligence directing the body-mind – is essential when addressing imbalances in physical, mental, and emotional health.
According to many cultures and faiths, the primary connection to the psyche is the heart, and it is the inner wisdom of the heart that links us with our blueprint for optimal health. Following this inner wisdom helps re-establish your optimal blueprint. The most common barriers to health and abundance that I see in clinical practice, however, are self-limiting beliefs of the subconscious mind that often separate a client from their heart and inner wisdom.
Transform these beliefs and healing can occur more quickly. Fail to identify them, and you could spend years and thousands of dollars making little if any progress.
Author and physician Bruce Lipton (The Biology of Belief) states that during the first seven years of life, our body-mind is largely in a highly suggestible, hypnotic state influenced by a predominance of theta waves (4-8 hz). As young children, we don’t have the experience and discernment to know positive from negative programming, and much of the latter kind becomes buried in the subconscious mind.
Years later, you may have no idea why you’re attracting dysfunctional relationships, unable to land a fulfilling job, or stuck in a pattern of chronic illness. Very often, the reason for our lack of vitality and unhealthy choices can be found in the subconscious mind, which is at least 93% of the total mind. Unexamined, and often irrational, subconscious programs can manifest the opposite of what you may consciously want, and these covert subconscious beliefs are generally the reason why your conscious desires and affirmations may be thwarted.
A useful analogy for the subconscious mind is to see it as the inner child because much of its conditioning and programming occurred before age seven. It often thinks irrationally, is concerned with immediate gratification, and influences many of the day-to-day functions of the human body-mind, such as breathing, digestion, heart rate, sleep, appetite, healing, and stress responses. If you don’t have the support of your inner child, they can literally shut down your life, block your energy, or sabotage your goals. If you do get their buy-in, then healing and positive manifestation can occur, often in miraculous ways.
During our work together, we’ll collaborate to uncover and release self-limiting conscious and subconscious beliefs, discard patterns and programs that no longer serve you, and assess your environment and relationships to free trapped energy and awareness that you can use to powerfully achieve your goals.
My approach is empathetic and whole-person oriented. The body-mind is influenced by local and non-local phenomena which exert physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual effects upon it. Contemporary Western medicine deals primarily with the physical layer, however, the causes of imbalance begin first in the deeper, more subtle layers of mind, become fortified in the emotional layers, and then manifest in the physical layer of the tissues. If you can transform your beliefs, you can transform your body.
My practice embodies a whole-person approach to wellness where mental, physical, and spiritual health are holistically addressed as interdependent systems rather than discrete elements each requiring specialization.
Whereas traditional counseling or psychotherapy operates largely on the level of the egoic mind, my work is guided by the priorities of a client’s inner wisdom using somatic modalities such as BodyTalk, felt-sense work, inquiry, and custom essential oil blends for limbic system support. Moreover, through the power of Presence and an open heart, maladaptive programs and conditioning dissolve to release deep layers of awareness bound in the subconscious mind to effect lasting change.
